The Association of Honorary Consultants to the Army Medical Library originated with Army Medical Library director Col. Harold Jones in the early 1940s. He sought the formation of an advisory group similar to one which has served the library earlier in the 1930s. The organization was formed in 1944, with its stated purpose being "the promotion of the welfare of the Army Medical library."
